Castlehill Primary is situated on the west side of Bearsden within a residential, suburban community. The current building was opened in 1967 and is a non-denominational, co-educational school for all stages from Nursery, age 2, to Primary 7.

We also have an Enhanced Learning Resource which supports children from across Bearsden & Milngavie who have a range of additional support needs.  We are very proud of our traditions and high standards in teaching and learning which we hope will fully equip our pupils for lifelong learning.

Here at Castlehill we aim to provide a safe, happy and caring environment where children learn respect for themselves and for others. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and work to ensure our pupils achieve the highest possible standards according to their ability. We aim to help our pupils become independent learners, be aware of their social responsibilities, be creative and healthy developing a positive attitude to life.

Castlehill is a busy school; we develop strong partnerships with parents and the wider community. We have an active Parent Council and fundraising team who organise social and fundraising events over the school year and many parents support their children at school in a variety of ways.

We value good relationships between parents and teachers as essential. We are committed to working together to ensure that pupils develop their full potential.

East Dunbartonshire Council reviewed the school in 2016. They highlighted the following areas of strong practice:

There is a very positive ethos in Castlehill Primary with a strong commitment from staff and the senior management team for continued improvement. Children are very polite and well behaved. The school are well placed to continue to improve. There are a number of contributing factors which support this:

  • A shared vision of how to move forward;
  • A highly committed staff who are eager to support one another, engage in practitioner enquiry and take part in professional dialogue;
  • Good relationships between staff and pupils;
  • Commitment to learning and teaching driven by the Senior Management Team;
  • Enthusiastic and confident pupils who are eager to learn.
